Last February, it was in a quaint little Brussels pub that we discovered the colourful world of the Alice River Band. Somewhere between blues and folk, this sextet of inspired young musicians struck us like a waterfall in the height of summer. Their original compositions are carried by sparkling brass and the heartfelt performance of Alice River, a trombonist and singer whose stage presence is accompanied by delightful stories and anecdotes.
You can sense the influence of gypsy jazz, enhanced by free-flowing compositions and wonderfully fresh arrangements. What a delight to see such boldness in this new generation, who are taking these styles and making them their own in order to reinvent them! The band will bring the festival to a joyful close in the heart of the Couvent, upon their return from their tour of Brittany and ahead of the recording of their debut album in the autumn.
