Description

The Yeunten Ling Tibetan Institute once again opens the doors of its magnificent main temple for a concert by the Chakâm duo. Under this name, which means ‘poem’ in Persian, the duo unveils a musical language in which the strings converse, build to a crescendo and come together in a sound that is by turns powerful and soothing.

The unique sound of the târ, the three-stringed Iranian lute, played by Sogol Mirzaei (Iran), meets the depth of the viola da gamba played by Marie-Suzanne de Loye (France). Drawing on the traditions of the Iranian, Arabic and Baroque classical repertoires, Chakâm delivers authentic modern compositions, oscillating between rhythmic trances and melodic lines.

Chakâm is a world at the crossroads of different paths: between nostalgia for lands left behind too soon and the mirage of a faraway place, driven by an unceasing thirst for discovery and renewal.
