The second half of this Création Kabarnaüm features Réunionese kabar, that iconic gathering where maloya becomes the beating heart of a Creole culture in motion. It is from this traditional music, with its deep rhythmic roots, that the Zinne Kabar project draws its essence. Driven by the original compositions of Jean-Didier Hoareau (Jidé), the group presents a vibrant maloya that both preserves tradition and is resolutely open to the world.
For this unique event, they have invited the undisputed master of the balafon, Aly Keita, thereby forging a masterful dialogue with the African roots of Maloya, as well as the unconventional and well-travelled accordionist Julien De Borman. Driven by a powerful acoustic percussion section, enriched by polyphonic harmonies imbued with Latin-African influences, the ensemble develops a collective, festive and spellbinding energy.
The Création Kabarnaüm project was born out of the vision of Veronica Campos, a percussionist and coordinator of the BaRR (Bachelor’s degree in Rhythm and Movement) programme at the Brussels Conservatoire. She possesses the rare talent of bringing together artists from all walks of life around a vibrant fusion of dance, rhythm and infectious energy. With her, it is impossible for a concert to remain confined to a conventional or predictable format.
Conceived as a two-part event — which we invite you to experience in its entirety — this evening breaks free from the usual concert formats. A true artistic explosion, Création Kabarnaüm takes over heritage venues, makes the very stones vibrate and infuses them with a resolutely contemporary energy. The evening will continue with a free after-party for anyone who has attended Part 2.
